Being presented with two different paths, the person in Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken,” noted, “I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence.”
This is your story and mine. Each of us is on a journey. This journey often feels as if we are in the woods – sometimes dark, sometimes beautiful. The road we choose winds us to many other paths we cannot yet see. And one day, what may seem like ages from now, we will each get to tell our story with a sigh.
~ Will your sigh be one of contentment or regret? ~
We believe that Jesus came to give us the way to make the right decision. We call his way The Path – the path toward knowing him better and loving him more.
As with any adventure, your journey down The Path doesn’t require all of the commitments up front. In fact, it’s not even possible to make them all at once. The Path is a series of steps. As you take each step, on purpose, you’ll discover a new understanding of those commitments and a call to embrace them again and again.
These steps are like milestones along The Path. Each builds on and supports the previous one and lays the foundation for the next. None of them stands alone, and most of them will become a part of your daily spiritual growth habits.
In one of his letters, Peter laid out these eight steps and the ultimate benefit of walking The Path well.
“Make every effort to add to your faith, excellence; to excellence, knowledge; to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; to godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly affection, unselfish love. For if these things are yours and continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.” (2 Peter 1:5-8)
