The Bible is arguably the greatest book in human history. Even by purely literary standards, it stands as a remarkable work. Here are just a few reasons.
The Bible was written:
- By 40 different authors of various backgrounds, trades, and levels of education
- In 3 languages – Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek (all common languages of their time)
- On 3 continents – Europe, Asia, and Africa
- Over a span of 1500+ years (c. 1445 BC to AD 100)
- With several different literary styles/genres – historical narrative, poetry, prophecy, epistle/letter
Not only that, but we have more copies of the New Testament alone in Greek (more than 5,000) and other ancient languages (more than 20,000) than any other ancient writing! (If you’re interested in the finer details of this, Dan Wallace is the de facto expert in this field – https://danielbwallace.com.)
And yet, through all that, the Bible has one common theme – the glory of God. It is, in fact, the only way that God has chosen to reveal himself personally to humanity without being limited to just one specific time. That’s a big deal.
And that’s why we spend so much of our time at Oak Tree in the Scripture – because the better we know the Bible, the better we can know the God of the Bible.
So we invite you to come and get to know God and his Word better. After all, our ultimate pursuit in this life is to know him better and love him more. Join us at 10:30 on Sunday mornings.
Do you have a question about the Bible or need a Bible? We would be glad to help!
